TCS Fresher Salary 2026: The In-Hand, PF and Tax Breakdown Nobody Publishes

A fresher in India pays zero income tax on salary income up to ₹12,75,000 a year. So what actually shrinks your TCS in-hand is provident fund, not tax. Every figure on this page is from a primary government source, and the numbers TCS does not publish are left blank rather than guessed.

Quick snapshot

  • Income tax on a fresher salary: ₹0 up to ₹12,75,000 — the ₹75,000 standard deduction plus the Section 87A rebate.
  • Section 87A rebate: up to ₹60,000, available while taxable income stays at or below ₹12,00,000.
  • Biggest real deduction: provident fund at 12% of PF wages.
  • EPF wage ceiling: raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 with effect from 17 September 2026.
  • Four Labour Codes: in force since 21 November 2025, rationalising 29 existing labour laws.
  • TCS Ninja / Digital / Prime CTC: not published by TCS in any official document. No honest page can quote one.
Direct answer

TCS does not publish a fresher CTC figure anywhere official, so any page quoting an exact "TCS Ninja salary" is repeating an unverified number. What can be stated exactly is the statutory math that applies to every TCS offer: at fresher pay levels your income tax is nil, because the ₹75,000 standard deduction plus the Section 87A rebate of up to ₹60,000 clears salary income up to ₹12,75,000. Your monthly deduction is provident fund — 12% of PF wages, now computed on a ceiling of ₹25,000 instead of ₹15,000. That is a maximum statutory employee PF deduction of ₹3,000 a month.

Why no honest page can give you a TCS Ninja or Digital CTC

TCS publishes quarterly and annual financial statements, headcount and attrition. It does not publish a pay band for Ninja, Digital or Prime offers. There is no official TCS document that states a fresher CTC.

Every site that prints an exact "TCS Ninja = X LPA" figure is quoting either crowd-sourced claims or another site that did the same. Those numbers may be close, or they may be two years stale. We do not know, and neither do they.

What this means for you. Do not plan a loan, a rent commitment or a relocation on a CTC figure you read on a blog. The only number that binds TCS is the annexure attached to your own offer letter. Under the Code on Wages, an appointment letter is now mandatory, so you are entitled to that document in writing.

CTC vs gross vs in-hand: reading your offer annexure

Three different numbers get called "salary", and the gap between them is where most freshers get surprised.

TermWhat it includesWhy it is not your in-hand
CTCEverything the company spends on you in a year, including the employer's PF share, gratuity provision and insurance premiumIncludes money that never reaches your bank account
GrossBasic pay, dearness allowance, HRA and other allowances before deductionsDeductions have not been applied yet
Net / in-handGross minus your PF contribution, professional tax and any TDSThis is the figure that is credited

The employer's PF contribution is counted inside CTC but is never credited to your account as salary. Gratuity provision is the same. This is why a CTC figure always reads higher than the money you actually see.

The ₹12,75,000 zero-tax wall and the AY 2026-27 slabs

Under the new tax regime, these are the slab rates for individuals for assessment year 2026-27, as published by the Income Tax Department.

Taxable incomeTax
Up to ₹4,00,000Nil
₹4,00,001 – ₹8,00,0005% above ₹4,00,000
₹8,00,001 – ₹12,00,000₹20,000 + 10% above ₹8,00,000
₹12,00,001 – ₹16,00,000₹60,000 + 15% above ₹12,00,000
₹16,00,001 – ₹20,00,000₹1,20,000 + 20% above ₹16,00,000
₹20,00,001 – ₹24,00,000₹2,00,000 + 25% above ₹20,00,000
Above ₹24,00,000₹3,00,000 + 30% above ₹24,00,000

Two things then apply on top. A salaried person deducts a standard deduction of ₹75,000 under Section 16(ia). And a resident individual gets a rebate under Section 87A of up to ₹60,000, available while taxable income does not exceed ₹12,00,000.

Put together: ₹12,00,000 of taxable income plus the ₹75,000 standard deduction means a salaried person pays no income tax on salary income up to ₹12,75,000. Every fresher offer in Indian IT sits far below that line, which is why your payslip shows no TDS.

Provident fund: 12%, and the new ₹25,000 ceiling

PF is the deduction that actually moves your in-hand. The statutory split is fixed.

ContributorRateWhere it goes
You (employee)12% of wagesEntirely to your EPF account
Employer8.33% of wagesEmployees' Pension Scheme (EPS)
Employer3.67% of wagesYour EPF account
Central Government1.16%Towards the pension fund

The wage ceiling for mandatory EPFO coverage was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month with effect from 17 September 2026. The ceiling had not moved since September 2014. The government estimated that more than 51 lakh additional formal-sector workers would come under mandatory coverage as a result.

What that does to your deduction, at the statutory rate of 12%:

Monthly PF wagesYour 12% deductionEmployer to EPS (8.33%)
₹15,000 (old ceiling)₹1,800₹1,250
₹20,000₹2,400₹1,666
₹25,000 (current ceiling)₹3,000₹2,083

A higher ceiling reduces your monthly in-hand slightly and increases the balance compounding in your EPF account. It is not a loss. It is deferred pay you can claim later, and the rules for that are in our EPF withdrawal guide.

The Labour Codes change that quietly moved your payslip

The four Labour Codes — the Code on Wages 2019, the Industrial Relations Code 2020, the Code on Social Security 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code 2020 — were made effective from 21 November 2025, rationalising 29 existing labour laws.

One provision matters more than the rest for your salary structure. Under the Code on Wages, if excluded pay-outs such as HRA, conveyance allowance, bonus, overtime or commission together exceed 50% of your total remuneration, the excess is added back to "wages".

Why this is in your favour. The old trick was to keep basic pay small and load everything into allowances, which shrank PF, gratuity and leave encashment. Under the uniform definition, that no longer works. A higher wage base raises the value of social security benefits that are linked to wages. Your monthly credit may look slightly smaller; what you are owed over time is larger.

The Codes also make an appointment letter mandatory. If you have an offer but no written annexure breaking down basic, allowances and PF, ask for it before you join.

Working out your own in-hand, with the assumptions printed

Because TCS publishes no CTC, the only correct method is to run your own annexure through the statutory rules. Do it in this order.

1

Take the gross figure from your annexure, not the CTC headline. Subtract the employer's PF share and the gratuity provision if they are listed inside CTC.

2

Find your PF wages — usually basic plus dearness allowance. Apply 12%. If that base exceeds ₹25,000, the statutory ceiling caps the mandatory computation.

3

Check professional tax. It is a state levy, so the amount depends on where you are posted, not on TCS.

4

Apply income tax. At fresher pay this is almost certainly nil: deduct ₹75,000 standard deduction, then apply the Section 87A rebate.

5

What remains is your in-hand. Compare it against the first payslip you receive and raise any mismatch with HR in the first month.

If your offer crosses the ₹12,00,000 taxable mark later in your career, marginal relief limits the jump so that the extra tax cannot exceed the extra income. That is a concern for a promotion, not a first job.

What is the TCS fresher salary in 2026?

TCS does not publish a fresher CTC in any official document, so no verified figure exists to quote. The binding number is the annexure attached to your own offer letter. What is certain is the statutory treatment: income tax is nil at fresher pay levels, and provident fund at 12% of PF wages is the main deduction.

How much income tax will I pay as a TCS fresher?

Nil. A salaried person pays no income tax on salary income up to ₹12,75,000, because of the ₹75,000 standard deduction under Section 16(ia) and the Section 87A rebate of up to ₹60,000 available while taxable income stays at or below ₹12,00,000.

How much PF is deducted from my salary?

12% of your PF wages, which is usually basic plus dearness allowance. At the current ceiling of ₹25,000 that is ₹3,000 a month. Your employer separately contributes 8.33% to the pension scheme and 3.67% to your EPF account.

Did the EPF wage ceiling actually change?

Yes. It was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month with effect from 17 September 2026. The ceiling had been unchanged since September 2014. The government estimated over 51 lakh additional workers would come under mandatory coverage.

Why is my in-hand lower than the CTC I was offered?

CTC includes money that never reaches your bank: the employer's PF contribution, the gratuity provision and insurance premiums. Your in-hand is gross pay minus your own PF, professional tax and any TDS. The gap is normal and is not a mistake by the company.

What do the Labour Codes change for my salary?

The four Codes took effect on 21 November 2025. The Code on Wages applies a uniform definition of wages: if excluded allowances exceed 50% of total remuneration, the excess is added back. That raises the base used for PF, gratuity and leave benefits. The Codes also make an appointment letter mandatory.

Should I trust a TCS salary figure I saw on another site?

Treat it as unverified. TCS has not published one, so those figures come from crowd-sourced claims that may be stale or wrong. Use them for rough orientation at most, and never for a financial commitment such as a loan or a rent agreement.

Is professional tax the same everywhere in India?

No. Professional tax is levied by the state, so the amount depends on the state you are posted in. Some states do not levy it at all. Check your payslip against the rules for your own work location.
