No LIC Apprentice Development Officer notification is live on licindia.in right now. This page tells you exactly what LIC has published, what it has not, and gives you the full official Phase-I and Phase-II exam structure from LIC's own handouts so you can start preparing today.
Quick snapshot
- ADO full form: Apprentice Development Officer, a post under Life Insurance Corporation of India.
- Status on 21 October 2026: the LIC careers page lists only the AAO Generalists / Specialists / Assistant Engineers 2025 recruitment and a Chief Financial Officer engagement on contract. There is no ADO notification, no PDF and no application link.
- The most recent ADO cycle LIC actually ran was listed as "Recruitment of Apprentice Development Officer 22-23", with a listing start date of 21 January 2023.
- LIC recruits ADOs in three separate candidate categories: Open Market, LIC Agents and LIC Employees.
- Open Market candidates face two phases. LIC Agents and LIC Employees face a single phase. LIC's own Phase-II handout says so.
- Phase-I is 100 questions, 60 minutes, but only 70 marks count for ranking because English is qualifying only.
- Vacancy count, age limit, qualification, fee and all dates are fixed by the notification. LIC has not issued one, so nobody has these numbers for 2026.
The LIC ADO notification 2026 has not been released. As checked on the official LIC careers page on 21 October 2026, the only recruitment advertisements live are "Recruitment of AAO Generalists Specialists Assistant Engineers 2025" and "Engagement of Chief Financial Officer – on contract basis". There is no Apprentice Development Officer advertisement, no notification PDF and no apply-online link for 2026.
The last ADO recruitment LIC conducted was listed on its own careers page as "Recruitment of Apprentice Development Officer 22-23", posted on 21 January 2023. LIC has not announced an expected date for the next cycle, and anyone publishing a specific 2026 notification date or a vacancy figure is guessing. What you can rely on right now is the exam pattern, because LIC published detailed Phase-I and Phase-II information handouts for that cycle. Both are reproduced in full below.
1. LIC ADO full form and what the job is
ADO stands for Apprentice Development Officer. It is a post in the Life Insurance Corporation of India. The word "Apprentice" in the title is part of the designation itself — it is a recruited post with a written examination and an interview, not an internship you walk into.
A Development Officer in LIC works on the agency side of the business, between the branch and the field: recruiting, training and supporting the agents who sell policies, and being responsible for the business they bring in. That is why LIC's own examination leans so heavily on insurance knowledge and marketing of insurance rather than only on aptitude.
People also search for "LIC DO vacancy 2026". Development Officer and Apprentice Development Officer are the same career track, and recruitment happens at the ADO stage, which is the entry point. So if you want a DO vacancy, the ADO notification is the one to watch.
2. Has the LIC ADO notification 2026 been released? Current status
No. Here is precisely what the official LIC careers page showed when it was checked on 21 October 2026:
| What is live on LIC careers | Relevant to ADO aspirants? |
|---|---|
| Recruitment of AAO Generalists Specialists Assistant Engineers 2025 | No — this is Assistant Administrative Officer and Assistant Engineer, a different post and a different exam |
| Engagement of Chief Financial Officer – on contract basis | No — a senior contractual engagement |
| Apprentice Development Officer 2026 | Not present. No advertisement, no PDF, no application link. |
Several websites currently carry pages headed "LIC ADO Notification 2026 Out" or "LIC ADO 2026 Apply Online", with a vacancy number and an application window. Nothing on LIC's own site supports any of that. If a notification had been issued, it would appear in the careers table on licindia.in first, as a dated entry with a downloadable advertisement.
The last real ADO cycle: what the record actually shows
LIC's careers table is a dated log, and an archived snapshot of it captured on 1 February 2023 preserves the ADO entry exactly as LIC published it:
| Field | As published by LIC |
|---|---|
| Title | Recruitment of Apprentice Development Officer 22-23 |
| Start Date | 21 Jan, 2023 |
| End Date | 20 Jan, 2024 |
| Follow-up document | LIC (ADO) Phase-II IH Eng 2023 — the Phase-II Information Handout, published under the same listing in April 2023 |
Two readings of this table are worth getting right. First, the "End Date" is not the application deadline. Those dates control how long the listing stays visible on the page. The application window inside a cycle is much shorter and is stated inside the advertisement itself. Second, the Phase-II Information Handout appearing in April 2023 confirms that this cycle ran all the way to its Phase-II stage — so the two-phase structure below was actually conducted, not theoretical.
Since that cycle, LIC has not put up a fresh ADO advertisement. There is no published schedule, no annual calendar for ADO recruitment, and no LIC statement about a 2026 cycle.
3. The three candidate categories, and why this changes your exam
Most other pages skip this entirely. LIC does not run one ADO exam. Its handouts print a separate test structure for each of three candidate categories:
Open Market Candidates
- Candidates from outside LIC
- Two phases: Phase-I (Preliminary), then Phase-II (Main)
- Then the interview stage
LIC Agents and LIC Employees
- Existing LIC agents; existing LIC employees
- Single phase exam — LIC's Phase-II handout states this in so many words
- Different paper, different marks weighting (see the Phase-II tables below)
An open market candidate has two written hurdles; an LIC agent or employee has one. The paper is also different and the marks are distributed very differently. Preparing from a generic "LIC ADO syllabus" post that ignores your category is a straightforward way to study the wrong things.
4. LIC ADO Phase-I (Preliminary) exam pattern — official
From LIC's own Phase-I Information Handout for Recruitment of Apprentice Development Officers. This stage applies to open market candidates.
| Section | Name of the Test | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| 2 | Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| 3 | English | 30 | 30** | 20 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 70** | 60 minutes |
LIC's footnote to that table, quoted exactly: "English Language test will be of qualifying nature and the marks in English Language will not be counted for ranking."
That reshapes your whole strategy. You answer 100 questions but only 70 marks decide your rank. English must be passed, not maximised — every mark you chase past the qualifying line does nothing for your ranking, while Reasoning and Numerical Ability carry your entire score.
Operational rules LIC states for Phase-I
- Each test is separately timed. Twenty minutes for Reasoning, twenty for Numerical, twenty for English. You cannot carry unused time from one section into the next. Practise with a sectional timer or you are practising a different exam.
- Every question has five options, only one of which is correct. Most candidates assume four. Five options changes the mathematics of elimination and makes a blind guess a one-in-five shot.
- "There will be no penalty for wrong answers marked by you." There is no negative marking. LIC nonetheless advises against random guessing.
- Total exam time is 60 minutes, but budget roughly 90 minutes at the venue for login, call letter verification and instructions.
- All tests except English are provided in English and Hindi.
- Scores are equated across sessions to adjust for difficulty differences between test forms. Test-wise and total scores are reported to two decimal places.
The cut-off rule nobody tells you
LIC's handout is explicit: a candidate must obtain the minimum qualifying marks in each Section separately AND the minimum marks in the aggregate to qualify for the Preliminary examination, the Main examination and the interview. Clearing the total is not enough — one weak section can end your attempt.
Those minimum marks are decided by LIC of India and are not published in advance. LIC also reserves the right to fix the standard of eligibility so as to restrict the number of candidates called for the test or the interview in proportion to the vacancies, and its decision on this is final. In plain terms: the cut-off is set after the exam, against the vacancy count. Any "expected cut-off" you see online is somebody's estimate.
5. LIC ADO Phase-II (Main) exam pattern — all three categories
From LIC's Phase-II Main Examination Information Handout. Note again: for open market candidates this is the second phase; for LIC agents and LIC employees this is the single phase they sit.
Open Market Candidates — 160 questions, 160 marks
| Sr | Name of the Test | Questions | Max Marks | Medium | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reasoning Ability & Numerical Ability | 50 | 50 | English & Hindi | Composite duration of 120 Minutes |
| 2 | General Knowledge, Current Affairs and English Language with Special Emphasis on Grammar and Vocabulary | 50 | 50 | English & Hindi | |
| 3 | Insurance and Financial Marketing Awareness with special emphasis on knowledge of Life Insurance and Financial Sector | 60 | 60 | English & Hindi | |
| Total | 160 | 160 | 120 Minutes |
LIC Agents Category — 100 questions, 160 marks
| Sr | Name of the Test | Questions | Max Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reasoning Ability & Numerical Ability | 20 | 20 | Composite duration of 120 Minutes |
| 2 | General Knowledge, Current Affairs and English Language with Special Emphasis on Grammar and Vocabulary | 20 | 20 | |
| 3 | Elements of Insurance and Marketing of Insurance | 60 | 120 | |
| Total | 100 | 160 | 120 Minutes |
LIC Employees Category — 100 questions, 160 marks
| Sr | Name of the Test | Questions | Max Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reasoning Ability & Numerical Ability | 20 | 20 | Composite duration of 120 Minutes |
| 2 | General Knowledge, Current Affairs and English Language with Special Emphasis on Grammar and Vocabulary | 20 | 20 | |
| 3 | Practice and Principle of Insurance, Marketing | 60 | 120 | |
| Total | 100 | 160 | 120 Minutes |
What the weighting tells you to study
Compare the third row in each table and the preparation plan writes itself.
- LIC agents and LIC employees: the insurance paper is 60 questions carrying 120 marks — two marks per question, three-quarters of the entire 160. Reasoning, numerical, GK and English together are worth only 40 marks. If you are in either of these categories and you are spending your time on aptitude practice sets, you are optimising the wrong 25 per cent.
- Open market candidates: the insurance paper is 60 questions for 60 marks — one mark each, so no bonus weighting, but it is still the single largest block at 60 of 160 marks. And it is the one subject that no ordinary bank-exam syllabus covers. Candidates coming from IBPS or SBI preparation arrive strong on reasoning and numerical and completely cold on life insurance and the financial sector. That gap is where open market candidates lose this exam.
Phase-I and Phase-II run on different clocks
One contrast that is easy to miss and expensive to get wrong. Phase-I is separately timed per section — 20 minutes each, no carry-over. Phase-II is a composite 120 minutes in which you may attempt any question from any test in any order. So Phase-II rewards a triage strategy: sweep the insurance paper first if that is your strength, bank the marks, then return. Phase-I punishes exactly that instinct.
Other official Phase-II rules: the exam is 120 minutes but you should plan for about 180 minutes at the venue; every question has five options with one correct answer; and once again, "There will be no penalty for wrong answers marked by you." The section-wise plus aggregate minimum-marks rule continues to apply, and an interview stage follows the written stages.
6. What is genuinely not known yet — and how to check for real
All of the following are fixed by the notification, and LIC has not published one:
| Detail you are searching for | Honest status |
|---|---|
| Total vacancies and zone-wise vacancies | Not published. Decided in the advertisement. |
| Age limit (minimum and maximum, relaxations) | Not published for a 2026 cycle. |
| Educational qualification and any experience condition | Not published for a 2026 cycle. |
| Application fee and intimation charges | Not published for a 2026 cycle. |
| Application start date and last date | Not published. No application link exists. |
| Phase-I and Phase-II exam dates, admit card dates | Not published. |
| Notification PDF | Does not exist for 2026. |
| Exam pattern (Phase-I and Phase-II) | Known — from LIC's own handouts for the most recent cycle, reproduced above. |
So when a site shows you a confident vacancy figure or an "expected notification date" for LIC ADO 2026, it is one of two things: an estimate presented as fact, or figures recycled from the 2022–23 cycle with the year changed. An earlier version of this very page carried such a number. It should not have, and it has been removed rather than updated.
The cost of acting on invented numbers is not abstract. People buy a coaching package sized to a vacancy count that does not exist, prepare for an exam date that was never announced, and then miss the short application window when a real notification finally appears, because they were waiting on a blog instead of the official source.
Two warnings, both from LIC itself
1. Check only licindia.in → Careers. Recruitment notices appear there first, as dated entries. The page has Region and Department filters and an Archive link for past notifications, so you can confirm for yourself what is live and what has closed. Bookmark that page and check it directly instead of relying on any aggregator or Telegram channel.
2. LIC runs a standing public notice titled "FRAUDULENT RECRUITMENT ADs: BEWARE...!" LIC never charges money for a job, and never recruits through agents, middlemen or WhatsApp groups. If anyone offers you an LIC ADO seat, a guaranteed selection, an "early application link" or a paid notification PDF, it is a fraud. Report it and walk away. There is no fee to pay anyone other than the official application fee stated in a genuine notification on licindia.in.
7. What to do with the next few months
Identify your category first
Open market, LIC agent or LIC employee. This decides whether you face two phases or one, and which Phase-II paper you sit. Everything else follows from it.
Start with insurance, not aptitude
It is the biggest block in every category and the hardest to cram. Life insurance principles, the Indian financial sector, marketing of insurance, and LIC's own products and structure. For agents and employees it is 120 of 160 marks.
If you are open market, train Phase-I with a sectional timer
Twenty minutes each for Reasoning, Numerical and English, with no carry-over, and five options per question. Treat English as a pass-or-fail gate, because its marks do not count towards your rank.
Build a weakest-section floor
Because you must clear each section separately and the aggregate, your lowest section is your real risk. Raise the floor before you raise the ceiling.
Keep general awareness and current affairs ticking
Phase-II carries 50 marks of GK, current affairs and English for open market candidates. Fifteen minutes a day, biased towards banking, insurance and the financial sector, does the job.
Check licindia.in → Careers weekly, and keep documents ready
Application windows in LIC recruitments are short. Keep your photograph, signature, certificates and identity documents scanned and ready so that a live notification does not cost you days of scrambling.
One final point on expectations. The pattern above comes from LIC's published handouts for its most recent ADO cycle. A new notification can revise the pattern, the sections, the marks or the number of phases. When the notification appears, read it in full and treat it as the only authority — including over this page.
Frequently asked questions
Is the LIC ADO notification 2026 out?
No. As checked on the official LIC careers page on 21 October 2026, the only live recruitment entries are "Recruitment of AAO Generalists Specialists Assistant Engineers 2025" and "Engagement of Chief Financial Officer – on contract basis". There is no Apprentice Development Officer advertisement, no notification PDF and no apply-online link for 2026. Any site showing an ADO 2026 notification as released is not reflecting what LIC has published.
What is the full form of LIC ADO?
ADO stands for Apprentice Development Officer, a post under Life Insurance Corporation of India. It is the entry point into LIC's Development Officer career track, which works on the agency side of the business — recruiting, training and supporting agents and being accountable for the business they bring in. That is why LIC's examination weights insurance and marketing knowledge so heavily.
What is the expected date of the LIC ADO notification 2026?
LIC has not announced one, and there is no published LIC calendar for ADO recruitment. The most recent cycle was listed as "Recruitment of Apprentice Development Officer 22-23" with a listing start date of 21 January 2023. Any specific expected date you see online is an estimate presented as a fact. The only reliable method is to check licindia.in and open the Careers page, where notices appear first as dated entries.
How many vacancies will there be in LIC ADO 2026?
Not known. The vacancy count and the zone-wise and category-wise breakup are fixed by the notification, and LIC has not issued one. Vacancy figures circulating for 2026 are either guesses or numbers recycled from the 2022–23 cycle with the year changed. Treat any confident vacancy number for 2026 as unverified until you can see it in a notification PDF on licindia.in.
What is the LIC ADO Phase-I exam pattern?
As per LIC's Phase-I Information Handout: Reasoning Ability 35 questions for 35 marks in 20 minutes, Numerical Ability 35 questions for 35 marks in 20 minutes, and English 30 questions for 30 marks in 20 minutes. That is 100 questions in 60 minutes, but the total that counts is 70 marks, because LIC states that the English Language test is of qualifying nature and its marks are not counted for ranking. Each test is separately timed, and every question has five options with one correct answer.
Is there negative marking in the LIC ADO exam?
No. Both the Phase-I and the Phase-II information handouts state: "There will be no penalty for wrong answers marked by you." LIC nevertheless advises against random guessing. Note that each question carries five options rather than the four most candidates assume, so a blind guess is a one-in-five chance.
Do LIC agents and LIC employees write the same ADO exam as open market candidates?
No. LIC publishes three separate test structures — Open Market Candidates, LIC Agents Category and LIC Employees Category. Open market candidates sit a two-phase exam, Phase-I followed by Phase-II. For LIC agents and LIC employees it is a single phase exam, as LIC's Phase-II handout states. The papers also differ: for agents and employees the insurance paper is 60 questions carrying 120 marks out of a 160-mark total, while for open market candidates it is 60 questions for 60 marks out of 160.
What are the minimum qualifying marks for LIC ADO?
LIC does not publish them in advance. The handout states that a candidate must obtain the minimum qualifying marks in each section separately and the minimum marks in the aggregate to qualify for the Preliminary examination, the Main examination and the interview, and that those minimum marks are decided by LIC of India. LIC also reserves the right to fix the standard of eligibility so as to restrict the number of candidates called for the test or interview in proportion to the vacancies, and its decision is final. So the cut-off is set after the exam against the vacancy position.
