1st year feels like a break from the pressure of 12th class. Most students relax. The smart ones use it to build ahead. You don't need to be an expert — you need to start.

2️⃣ 2nd Year — Choose a Direction & Get Your First Internship
2nd year is where your career trajectory is set. The students who figure out their direction in 2nd year have a huge advantage by 4th year. Choose a domain, go deep, and get your first internship.
✓Choose Your Domain: Software (web dev, data science, AI/ML), Hardware (VLSI, embedded), Core (mechanical design, civil structures), or Management (finance, marketing, operations). You cannot do everything — pick one and go deep.
✓Build a Portfolio Project: Start your first real project — a website, a Python script, a circuit design, a CAD model. It doesn't have to be perfect. It needs to exist. Recruiters look for evidence of initiative.

4th year is not the time to learn new skills from scratch — it is the time to execute, polish, and apply. Students who wasted previous years will scramble here. Students who followed the roadmap will be selective.
✓Final Year Project: Choose a project that is genuinely impressive — not a copy of a tutorial. Use a real dataset, solve a real problem, deploy it online. Your final year project is your biggest interview talking point.
✓Campus Placement Preparation: For software roles — intensive DSA + system design. For core roles — subject fundamentals + GATE concepts. For management roles — aptitude + group discussion + HR interview. Start by July of 4th year.

No — it is not too late, but you need to be honest about the situation. You have roughly 12–18 months before placements. Use this time intensively. Should I focus on marks or skills in engineering?▼
