🚗 Driving Licence 2026 — Overview & Eligibility
Driving Licence in India is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. All DL applications are processed through Sarathi Parivahan portal (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in). The process involves 2 stages: Learner's Licence (LL) first, then Permanent DL after 30 days.

Learner's Licence Apply Online — Step by Step
sarathi.parivahan.gov.in visit చేయండి. Your state (Andhra Pradesh / Telangana) select చేయండి. "Apply for Learner Licence" click చేయండి.
Name, DOB, address, Aadhaar number enter చేయండి. Vehicle class select చేయండి. Photo, signature, address proof upload చేయండి.
Online fee pay చేయండి (₹150 approx). LL test slot book చేయండి — RTO office లో online test అవుతుంది. Slot date & time note చేసుకోండి.
Booked slot లో RTO visit చేయండి. Computer-based traffic rules test give చేయండి. Pass అయితే immediately Learner's Licence issued అవుతుంది.
Permanent Driving Licence Apply — After LL
After 30 days of LL issue (minimum), apply for Permanent DL:
sarathi.parivahan.gov.in → "Apply for DL" → Enter LL number + DOB → Select vehicle class
Documents upload చేయండి. DL test slot book చేయండి. Fee pay చేయండి (₹200 + Smart Card ₹200 = ₹400 approx)
RTO లో driving test give చేయండి. Pass అయిన తర్వాత Smart Card DL 15–30 days లో address కి deliver అవుతుంది
Driving Licence Renewal Online 2026
DL renewal can be done online 1 year before expiry. Steps:
sarathi.parivahan.gov.in → "Apply for Renewal of DL" → Enter DL number
Medical certificate upload (if age 40+). Documents, photo, signature upload
Fee pay (₹200 approx). No driving test required for renewal. New DL delivered in 30 days
⏰ Grace Period: DL renewal can be done up to 1 year after expiry without additional penalty. Beyond 1 year, late fee ₹1,000 applicable. Don't drive with expired DL — ₹10,000 fine!

LL తర్వాత ఎన్ని రోజులకు Permanent DL apply చేయవచ్చు?
Minimum 30 days after Learner's Licence issue date, and maximum 180 days after LL issue. If you miss the 180-day window, you need to apply for LL again. Most people apply for permanent DL within 30 to 60 days of getting LL.
DL test లో ఏమి test చేస్తారు?
The permanent DL driving test is conducted at RTO by a Motor Vehicle Inspector. For two-wheeler: figure-8 riding test and road test. For four-wheeler: parking test, gear shifting, turning, and road test. The test typically takes 10-15 minutes. Practice the specific test route near your local RTO before the test date.
Driving Licence ఎన్ని సంవత్సరాలకు valid గా ఉంటుంది?
Non-transport (personal vehicle) DL is valid until the holder turns 50 years, after which renewal every 5 years is needed. For those above 50, it is renewed every 5 years. Transport/commercial vehicle DL is valid for 3 years and must be renewed with a medical certificate. Learner's Licence is valid for only 180 days.
DigiLocker లో DL valid గా ఉంటుందా?
Yes. Driving Licence stored in DigiLocker is legally valid under the IT Act 2000 and Motor Vehicles Act amendments. Traffic police must accept DigiLocker DL during checks. You can link your DL to DigiLocker through digilocker.gov.in and show it on your phone during traffic checks — physical card carrying is no longer mandatory.
