💡 Why Government Medical College?
Government medical college MBBS is the gold standard of medical education in India. Fees are 50–200x lower than private medical colleges. Clinical exposure is higher due to large patient volumes in government hospitals. Government college tag carries significant respect in medical community. The challenge: extremely high NEET cutoff — only the top scoring NEET students get government seats.
⚠️ Two Counselling Routes — Register for Both
There are TWO separate counselling processes for government MBBS seats. AIQ (All India Quota) — 15% seats in state govt colleges + all AIIMS/JIPMER/central college seats — conducted by MCC at mcc.nic.in. State Quota — 85% remaining state govt seats — conducted by state authority (APMC for AP, Kaloji Narayana Rao University for TS). Missing registration for either means missing those seats. Register for BOTH simultaneously.

MBBS Admission Process — Step by Step 2026

1Appear for NEET UG: NEET is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) annually — usually in May. Registration opens in December–January. NEET is mandatory for all MBBS/BDS admissions in India including government colleges.
2Check NEET Result & Rank: Results declared in June. Note your All India Rank (AIR) and category rank — both are important for counselling. Check previous year cutoffs for your target colleges.
3Register for AIQ Counselling (MCC): Visit mcc.nic.in immediately after results. Register for AIQ counselling — covers all AIIMS, JIPMER, and 15% seats in state govt colleges. Round 1 counselling typically in July–August.
4Register for State Quota Counselling: Simultaneously register on state authority portal — APMC (apmc.ap.gov.in) for AP and Kaloji Narayana Rao University/TS Medical Counselling for Telangana. 85% seats in state govt colleges fill here.
5Fill College Preferences: Both AIQ and state counselling require you to fill and lock college preferences. Fill ALL eligible government colleges — don't be selective. You can always decline an offered seat.
6Document Verification: Required documents: NEET scorecard, Class 10 & 12 marksheets, Aadhaar, category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), domicile/residency certificate, passport photos. Keep originals + 10 self-attested copies.
7Report to Allotted College: After seat allotment, report to the college within the prescribed deadline with original documents. Pay the first year fee (government colleges: ₹15,000–₹40,000 typically). Seat is confirmed only after document verification and fee payment.

FAQs — Government Medical College Admission India 2026

How many attempts are allowed for NEET?
As of 2026, there is no limit on the number of NEET attempts. The Supreme Court struck down attempt limits. However, the age limit is 17 years minimum (must complete 17 by December 31 of admission year) and no maximum age limit for general category (25 year limit was removed). SC/ST/OBC candidates also have no age limit. You can attempt NEET every year until you get the desired score.
Can OBC and SC/ST students get government MBBS seats with lower NEET score?
Yes — reservations apply to MBBS admissions in government colleges. OBC: 27% reservation, SC: 15% reservation, ST: 7.5% reservation, EWS: 10% reservation in central institutions (AIQ and central colleges). State government colleges have state-specific reservation percentages. The NEET cutoff for reserved categories is significantly lower — SC/ST students can get government MBBS seats with scores 100–150 marks lower than general category cutoff at many colleges.
What is the bond required in AP and Telangana government medical colleges?
AP and Telangana government medical colleges require MBBS students to sign a bond for rural service after completing MBBS. In AP, the bond is typically 1 year of mandatory rural service in a government health facility. Bond amount (penalty for breaking) varies — typically ₹10 lakh to ₹40 lakh depending on the college and category. This bond applies to students who received subsidized government medical education. Students must plan for this rural service period after MBBS and internship.
