📋 What is JEE Advanced?

🏛️ Quick Facts
  • Full Name: JEE Advanced
  • Conducted by: One of the 7 zonal IITs (rotates annually)
  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Papers: Paper 1 + Paper 2 (both mandatory)
  • Duration: 3 hours per paper
  • Language: English and Hindi
🎯 Purpose
  • Admission to all 23 IITs
  • Also gateway to IISc Bangalore (via KVPY/JEE Adv)
  • ~17,385 seats across IITs (approximate)
  • B.Tech, B.S., Dual Degree programs
  • Only exam for IIT admission

JEE Advanced is conducted by one of the 7 zonal IITs (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati) on a rotational basis. It is considered one of the most challenging undergraduate entrance exams in the world, requiring deep conceptual understanding, problem-solving creativity, and multi-step analytical thinking that goes significantly beyond standard Class 12 curriculum.

📝 JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

⚠️ Important: JEE Advanced pattern changes EVERY year. The below reflects the general structure.

Two mandatory papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each paper has three sections (Physics, Chemistry, Maths). Total 180 marks per paper × 2 = 360 marks overall. Duration: 3 hours per paper (back-to-back on same day).

✅ Eligibility — Who Can Appear?

✅ Must Satisfy ALL
  • Qualify JEE Main (top 2.5 lakh CRL)
  • First attempt at Class 12 / equivalent in current or previous year only
  • Maximum 2 attempts at JEE Advanced allowed (in consecutive years)
  • Not already admitted to IIT/ISM previously
  • Age: Born on or after October 1 of the year 3 years before exam year (General)
⚠️ Key Restrictions
  • Only 2 attempts total (not per year)
  • Must appear in both Paper 1 AND Paper 2 (missing one = invalid)
  • Class 12 board: Min 75% aggregate (Gen/OBC-NCL) OR top 20 percentile of board — for IIT admission
  • Previous IIT/ISM admission: Not eligible to reappear

📚 JEE Advanced Syllabus — Key Topics

Note: JEE Advanced syllabus is largely the same as JEE Main but the questions require much deeper application, multi-concept problem-solving, and original mathematical thinking.
⚡ Physics (Hard Topics)
Rotational Mechanics · Modern Physics (Radioactivity, Photoelectric) · Electromagnetic Induction · Optics (Wave+Geometric) · Fluid Mechanics · Thermodynamics (laws + cycles)
🧪 Chemistry (Hard Topics)
Electrochemistry (full) · Chemical Kinetics · Organic name reactions + mechanism · Coordination chemistry · p-block + d-block detailed
📐 Maths (Hard Topics)
Complex Numbers · Differential + Integral Calculus (advanced) · Matrices + Determinants · Probability · Conic Sections (full) · 3D Geometry + Vectors

What makes it hard: JEE Advanced questions combine concepts from multiple chapters, require original approaches, and often have no direct formula substitution. Time management is critical — 3 hours for very complex problems.
